Weather

The autumn storms continued Thursday and are set to last until Monday, with occasional heavy rain and gale force winds, creating poor visibility with the amount of dust in the atmosphere.
The bus was delayed by an hour this morning on the road to Mijas, with a fallen tree, and the bomberos (fire brigade) removing branches and debris.
We had to catch the bus because J would not travel over the mountain road in the winds, in the campervan!

Cats and Dogs!

We have adopted one of each so far, a scrawny ginger tom who keeps trying to get in, and a friendly dalmation who lives opposite.
We took pity on the cat yesterday because of the rain and invited him in, but after behaving gratefully at the shelter we had given him, startled us by wailing like a banshee for no apparent reason, so he had to go!
As you see the dalmation is a lovely female puppy and she can continue to visit.

Yunquera

We visited the Annual Grape Harvest Festival last Sunday, with the traditional costumes, singing and grape treading in a barrel.

Renovation of Ruin nextdoor

Work continued in early October with Ruin Man starting to demolish supporting walls and floors. The walls are similar to the house in construction, not dissimiliar to castle walls, made of huge boulders and a mortar of earth and rock.
We think the houses were either remenants of dwellings linked to the Moorish Castle Fahalla destroyed by the French in 1812, or built from stone from the castle. Either way, the ruin and the house are pretty old.
Ruin Man has no mechanical drills or power tools-just a hammer and chisel, and an occasional labourer to help him load the skips (cubas) - 2 filled so far. The main worry is that his demolitions are threatening the integrity of the house, but hopefully the tons of reinforced concrete Ricardo used will keep it up.
